Student Patrol

The UW – Eau Claire Police Department strives to assist students in their education through the Student Patrol program. This student employment gives UW - Eau Claire students an opportunity to work within a police department and gain valuable knowledge that will help them in their careers after school.

What is Student Patrol?

Student Patrol consists of UW-Eau Claire students that assist the department via foot patrol. It is the job of Student Patrol workers to report any suspicious or unlawful activity that they may encounter to the police officers on duty. Student Patrol also assists with coverage for special events, such as the Hmong New Year celebration that takes place on campus in November, Homecoming, and graduation ceremonies.

Duties of Student Patrol

The goal of Student Patrol is to help promote safety and security on campus by being a visible presence to deter illegal activity. This goal is accomplished by performing a number of duties during an assigned shift. Some of these duties include checking various buildings to ensure doors are secure, checking campus parking lots, writing parking tickets, and patrolling campus grounds on foot.

Hiring Process

Students must first fill out an application for the position and submit it to the University Police Department. Applications may be picked up Monday thru Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm, at the University Police Department office located in Crest Wellness Center, Room 119 or fill out the online application. Completed applications must be dropped off at the Police Department and will be accepted by our agency at any time during the year. The open positions may also be posted on the Financial Aid page for student employment for on-campus jobs. http://fasj.apps.uwec.edu Qualified applicants are then selected for an interview and must submit to a background investigation. Hires are then trained on proper use of equipment, campus boundaries, and duties to be performed during their shift.
