During the 2008 spring semester, the Econ Department is hosting two visiting professors from Viet Nam, Dr. Phi Manh Hong and Professor Khoi Nguyen. Professor Hong and Professor Khoi will be doing research and studying in the Dept of Economics. They are from Viet Nam National University in Hanoi.

During spring break Professor Rose-Marie Avin and Assistant Professor Eric Jamelske visited Viet Nam National University in Hanoi. The visit was part of an exchange between the College of Economics at VNU and the UWEC Center for International Education and Department of Economics.
Dr. Avin lectured on the topic of international trade in Latin America and more specifically on the effects of NAFTA on the Mexican economy. She also delivered a special talk on the upcoming US presidential election in November 2008.
Dr. Jamelske lectured on the topic of the US health care system and how it compares internationally. He also spoke about his research on health care reform and school health and nutrition and gave a special talk on energy use and climate change.
This was the sixth and final year of the faculty exchange program under the current grant funding. The Center for International Education and the Department of Economics are currently looking into ways to continue this extraordinary partnership with Viet Nam National University.

The Chippewa Valley Center for Economic Research and Development (CVCERD) provides local/regional economic data as well as research and analysis as a service to the community. Our mission is to supply basic economic information and to produce and disseminate timely economic analysis in order to help foster economic development in the region.
