Biographical/Historical Note
In 2016, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire celebrated its 100-year anniversary. The university was established in 1916 as the Eau Claire State Normal School. Over the past one hundred years, the university has expanded its academic offerings and grown in enrollment. This collection looks at those accomplishments and documents the numerous celebrations that took place on campus prior to and during the 2016-2017 school year.
Content Description
Physical materials included in this collection are the university’s strategic plans from 2016-2020; a summary report created by Susan Harrison, Centennial Celebration Planning Coordinator, documenting the planning and preparation for the university’s centennial celebration (also available in digital format); correspondence; a timeline poster detailing significant events of the university’s history from 1916-2016; various posters and other promotional materials for the event; gala event programs; yearly calendars; Blugold View magazines from 2016-2017, and a 2016 commencement program.
Digital materials included in this collection are located in the Digital Asset Preservation Storage: AS606_CentennialCelebrationPlanningCommittee” collection. Accession folder 24-003 ranges from 2014-2017 and includes: “100 Reasons to Celebrate” articles written about the university’s history for the UW-EC student newspaper The Spectator, 2016-2017; budgets; Centennial Celebration Planning Team meeting agendas and minutes, and member rosters; Centennial Concert Planning Committee meeting minutes and gala budget; correspondence; event and marketing information, including calendars, event timelines, light pole banner designs; publications; planning documents and status updates; Centennial Plans Survey; and timelines with checklists, lists of possible events, and recognition weeks timeline.
