Summary: This collection contains annual reports by the Division of Public Safety and, later, the University Police about safety and law enforcement on campus. There are also various reports and policies on safety and parking on campus. Includes digital materials.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Department of Safety and Security was created as a separate department from Campus Security in 1970 and was renamed the Division of Public Safety under director Charles Riley in 1984. The department would remain as the Division or Office of Public Safety until the early 2000s when the University Police took over as the main safety/security office on campus.

Content Description

The majority of this collection consists of Annual Reports from the Division of Public Safety and the University Police from various years between 1984-2023. The collection also contains various safety policies and reports primarily from the 1970s, and an Office of Public Safety Unit Review from Spring 2001. Digital materials are located in the Digital Asset Preservation Storage: “AS111_PublicSafety” collection, of Annual Security & Annual Fire Safety Reports, 2020-2023.

Acquisition Information: Transferred to the University Archives by the Division of Public Safety prior to 2007. Additional material added later.
