Biographical / Historical Note

The University Centers is charged with managing the activities, programs, budget and accounting control of the Davies Student Center, Hilltop Center, and Crest Commons. Within this context, the Activities and Programs Office is responsible for providing “opportunities for the students’ intellectual, personal, and social development through a comprehensive program.” Programming includes the Forum Series, the Artists Series, the Foreign Film Series, the Cabin Performer Series, the Viennese Ball, the Winter Carnival, Cabaret, Homecoming, Commencement, art exhibits, theater productions, building dedications, and other events.

Content Description

Documentation for programs and events officially sponsored through the University of Wisconsin—Eau Claire Activities and Programs Office, except for the Viennese Ball. Viennese Ball records can be found in Archives Series 363. Records include event programs; financial summaries; other summary documents related to events such as the Artists Series and Forum Series (planning, information about, marketing and publicity, posters and photographs, and contracts for performers and presenters), Campus Films Series, Winter Carnival, Summer Session performers, Cabaret, Homecoming, Cabin performers, concerts, orientation, etc.; Centennial celebration events; Davies Student Center events, renovations, building plans, Dulany Inn (original and current Davies Student Center); grants, annual reports, University Activities Commission meeting minutes, and minutes of other committees coordinated by the Activities and Programs office. Also includes photographs, posters, newspaper articles, and Homecoming buttons.

Filmed forum presentations were added to the Local History DVD Collection: Amy Goodman, April 28, 2010; Dave Zirin, March 28, 2012; and Tim Wise, October 9, 2012. The Best of the S.T.I.F.FE (Student Independent Film Festival), 1999-2008, was also added to the Local History DVD Collection.

Digital materials included in this collection are located in the Digital Asset Preservation Storage: “AS115UniversityCentersActivitiesandPrograms” collection. Accession folder 23-027 ranges from 1942-2013 and includes: Artists Series music performance recordings; First Fridays planning, event, and marketing documents and photographs; The Forum Series artists photographs, ca. 1942-1992; Grants – Performing Arts Fund event photographs; Homecoming button designs (2010), photographs (2013), adopt-a-block maps and a commercial video (2006);  National Association for Campus Activities (NACA-UAC) posters and fliers created by students; music videos created by students during Orientation CUBE Fest 2006; The Dulany stain glass window photographs, 2011-2012; and UAC Concert photographs of Savage Aural Hotbed, 2010.
