COVID-19 & Youth Activities

Guidelines for safety during the pandemic

UW-Eau Claire and the UW System are committed to providing safe youth programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The following guidelines apply to all in-person youth programs on a UWEC campus. These are based on UW-Eau Claire guidelines and the UW System Fall 2021 Guidance for Minors on UW System Campuses.

Participants who are unable or unwilling to adhere to these guidelines will not be eligible to participate in the activity, and must return home with their parent or guardian.

Vaccinations are the greatest defense against the spread of COVID-19 and we encourage all guests age five (5) and older visiting our campuses to get vaccinated. Click here to find a vaccination site.

Masks are required to be worn indoors by all individuals entering a UWEC campus, regardless of vaccination status. If participating in a sporting event indoors, a mask is not required while participating in the activity though masks are required to be worn while the participant is on the sidelines. This is in alignment with campus mask guidelines and CDC K-12 guidance.

Single-day activities
    • Testing is not required for single-day activities
    • All participants are required to be screened daily for symptoms prior to start of the activity

Multi-day activities (repeat activities occurring at least once per week)

      3. Documentation of a positive PCR test within ninety (90) days of the activity and completion of the isolation period.

General Safety
    • All participants and staff should maintain physical distancing, as possible
    • Participants and staff are encouraged to wash their hands for at least twenty (20) seconds and use hand sanitizer as often as possible
    • When possible, program directors will group attendees into cohorts of limited size to limit potential outbreaks
    • When possible, program directors will schedule programming outdoors
    • If a participant shows multiple symptoms at any time during an activity, the participant will be isolated and a parent/guardian will be required to pick up the youth within one (1) hour for commuter programs or twenty-four (24) hours for overnight programs (an isolation room and meals will be provided). In this case, participants will not be retested before leaving campus, but should be tested as soon as possible and the program director notified of any positive results.
Program Staff

UWEC faculty, staff and students working with youth are required to follow university guidelines for COVID-19.

Contact the program director for your specific activity.

Refund policies are determined by the program director. Contact info for program directors can be found on the program webpage.

If on-campus testing is required:

UWEC uses the rapid BinaxNOW antigen test. This test takes just a minute to self-administer and about twenty minutes until results are ready. A parent or guardian is encouraged to remain with the participant until testing is complete, unless the participant is of high school age and intends to check themselves into the program.

Additional information will be provided by program directors as part of the check-in communication.

No, provided they can show proof of being fully vaccinated on the first day of the program. Fully vaccinated means at least two (2) weeks have passed since the final dose.

For the safety of all participants, our staff and community, we HIGHLY encourage all eligible participants to be vaccinated.
