About Us

Message from the President:

Our summer has passed more quickly than ever.  It may have been because of our May 9th snowfall this year!  So now the beginning of another school year and our fall schedules are upon us with all of the excitement of a new start.  UWA is starting its 97th year as the oldest continuously  running organization on our campus.  We have been part of the Eau Claire State Normal School, the Eau Claire State Teachers College, the Wisconsin State College at Eau Claire, the Wisconsin State University-Eau Claire, and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.  All of this without leaving our campus area.

All women currently or previously associated with the university through their own employment or that of their partners are invited to participate in the University Women's Association and its varied activities.  There will be three general meeting this year for  the membership.  The first meeting will be on Monday, September 23rd at 7:00 p.m. In the Davis Center Alumni Room.  Our speaker will be Becky Hogue Wojahn.  Her presentation, “The Ears, the Nose, and the Whiskers of a Story” will touch on her writing process and how her Eau Claire roots influence her work.  Our second meeting will be a potluck in February, and our final meeting will be a luncheon meeting to be scheduled in the spring.

The University Women's Association has existed since 1916 for the purpose of providing opportunities for building community among those associated with the university.  Through the years UWA has played an important role in serving the university and supporting the needs of university families and individuals.

Participants have developed friendships as they participated in monthly small groups of special interests, such as book discussions, film discussions, bridge, luncheon-out, fiber arts, a play group for faculty children, and UWA connections.

To provide support for students, UWA established the Emergency Grant Fund in 1985 with recipient preference being the non-traditional female student in need of emergency assistance by the UW-EC Foundation.

As president of UWA this year I encourage you to participate!  Many of us have demanding jobs and family obligations.  UWA is something you can do just for you. We welcome new members at any meeting. So please come, relax, and network with new friends and old.  Connect with an interest group and learn more about the UW-EC community.  We look forward to seeing you soon.
