COVID-19 Policies and Procedures

Stay informed and involved

We are excited to welcome back UWEC Students, Staff and Faculty! During this time, we ask for your patience, openness to learning new ways of doing things and your constructive feedback as we work to improve your overall experience while limiting the spread of COVID-19.

Outside Users

In conjunction with Eau Claire City-County Health Department, we have made the decision to restrict all outside users until May 2021. The decision to reopen to the public will hinge on case trajectory, the availability of testing and the COVID-19 activity level in Eau Claire County.

Reservations

A reservation will be required each time you use the fitness centers, indoor track, pool, climbing and bouldering walls, racquetball courts, and Esports. To reserve a time, click on the link below. Log in using your UWEC credentials and follow these easy steps:

  1. Select the Facility/Program you wish to make a reservation for
    1. Fitness Programs – MSPC, Crest, or Group Ex
    2. Open Rec/Track/Racquetball
    3. eSports
    4. Pool
    5. Outdoor Trips & Climbing Programs
  2. Select the Reservations option and an available time
  3. At Checkout, choose "CHECKOUT"
  4. Choose Payment Option "CHECKOUT"

You will see a $0.00 Total, nothing will be charged to your account.

If you cannot make your reservation, please cancel so others can fill that spot.

  • Go to the Recreation portal
  • Log in with your UWEC credentials
  • Click on your name at the top right
  • Choose “Profile” from the drop-down
  • Click “Programs” at the left
  • Click on the three dots to the right of the reservation you wish to cancel
  • Choose “Cancel Reservation” and “Yes, Cancel Reservation”

Accessing Facilities and Programs

Face Masks/Coverings

Masks will be required, even while exercising. Masks may be removed while swimming only.

Physical Distancing

At all times indoors, users are expected to maintain 6-foot physical distancing.

Accountability

These policies are mandatory. If you are not feeling well, please stay home. We expect all Recreation users to take responsibility for their own health and safety and respect the same of those around them.

Patrons who do not abide by the new policy will be asked to leave the facility and will be subject to UWEC’s code of conduct.

  • Log in daily to the Blugold Protocol app to record your temperature and symptoms if any.
  • Students who develop symptoms should contact Student Health Services during normal business hours or the local health care system on evenings and weekends.
  • Student Health Services will have COVID testing available.
  • Due to limited space availability and to abide by physical distancing guidelines, all areas will use an online reservation system (Microsoft Bookings).  Patrons will only be allowed to sign up a day in advance and are only allowed one slot per day.
  • If issues with online reservations arise, patrons can stop by or call the Recreation Office in Hilltop Center, 715-836-3377.
  • Time slots will be available for 45 minutes, depending on facility and program use.
  • There will be a no-show policy in effect due to the demand for the facilities. If a patron neglects to show up for a reservation three times, they will not be allowed to reserve a time in any facility until further notice. Names will be documented by staff each time a patron does not show up for their reservation.
  • All users will be required to provide name, phone number and email for staff to track usage during specific times in case of possible virus transmission.
  • Walk-ins will not be accepted, and reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
MSPC

Sign-Up/Entrance/Exit Procedures

The fitness centers are open to current Blugold ID holding members only. A membership is required prior to arrival and a reservation is required. Visit HERE to sign up for a 45-minute time slot. NOTE: FAcilty is closed 8-9 a.m. Monday-Friday for cleaning.

You will have 15 minutes to check in, after that the entrance will be closed. Your workout will conclude 15 minutes before the hour regardless of your arrival time to allow for cleaning, so please be on time and follow ENTRANCE and EXIT guidelines.

  • If you are not feeling well, please cancel your appointment.
  • Wait outside the facility before their time utilizing physical distance markings in the hallway.
  • Arrive on the hour to enter, swipe your Blugold ID, no Blugold ID number lookups.
  • Show your confirmation email on your phone to the desk attendant.
  • Verify training area with desk worker and head straight there.
  • Mask must be worn at all times.
  • Physical distancing is required.
  • Bring your own water bottle, water fountains will be shut off.
  • No cubbies or lockers- bring minimal items and keep them with you.
  • No towel service or showers.
  • Must have a clean 2nd pair of shoes to enter.
  • Follow sanitizing instructions on each machine.

MSPC Weight Room Equipment

  • All equipment with absorbent material (mats, rollers, medicine balls, etc.) or that have soft/absorbent handles will not be available for use.
  • Equipment will not be allowed to be shared. Patrons cannot “work in” while doing their workout.
  • Any activity that requires a person to person spotting technique is not allowed at this time.
  • Work areas will be designated by the platforms and spaced out and marked off with floor tape.
  • Users will bring all movable equipment (dumbbells, kettlebells, etc.) for use to their work area.

MSPC Cardio

  • All cardio equipment will be moved to the north “D” of the track to allow for maximum use, but still, meet physical distancing guidelines.
    • Cleaning stations will be in the middle of the “D” to allow patrons to clean their equipment.
    • Patrons will need to enter through the west doors on the track and exit through the east doors. Signs will be located on the track.
  • There will be a staff member in the open rec office and on the track in Olson to verify IDs and to clean the equipment after use.

Cleaning/Disinfecting

  • Sign on each machine: Green= Clean, Red= Dirty.
    • Users clean the machine and flip to red after use. Staff will wipe it a second time, and then turn the card to green.
    • Desk workers will check each group in, then be doing cleaning checks regularly looking for “red” machines.
    • During 15-minute cleaning time, the goal is for all equipment to be disinfected and “green” before allowing in the next group.
  • Plastic barriers will be put between each side of platforms and through the cable machines to provide a moisture barrier.
  • Athletic programs will not be allowed to keep paper workouts in the storage bins by the main desk.
CREST

Crest Equipment

  • All equipment with absorbent material (mats, rollers, medicine balls, etc.) or that have soft/absorbent handles will not be available for use.
  • No "working-in." Must complete work on a single machine before moving on.
  • Two-person spot technique on benches only. Use safety bars on all other equipment
  • Equipment that is offline due to physical distancing guidelines will be marked with caution tape.

Cleaning/Disinfecting

  • Sign on each machine: Green= Clean, Red= Dirty. Users clean the machine and flip to red after use. Desk workers will wipe it a second time, and then turn the card to green.
    • Desk workers will check each group in, then be doing cleaning checks regularly looking for “red” machines.
    • During 15-minute cleaning time, the goal is for all equipment to be disinfected and “green” before allowing in the next group.
    • Two Crest workers will be staffed for cleaning Monday-Friday from 3-7 p.m.
    • Crest will close from 1-2 p.m. daily for a deep clean.
Pool
  • Only lap swim will be allowed.
  • A total of 6 people in the pool at a time with only one person per lane.
  • Patrons must sign up in advance and will be allowed an allotted time based on the time of day:
    • 6-8 a.m.: 45 minutes
    • 12-1:30 p.m.: 30 minutes
    • 7-10 p.m.: 45 minutes
    • Weekend hours: 45 minutes
  • Locker rooms will be closed. Swimmers can change in restrooms or come prepared to swim.
  • To enter the pool, swimmers will go through the hallway doors that are near the McPhee elevator and studio 111.
  • Swimmers must use the showers on the deck prior to entering the pool and should bring their own towel to use.
  • Facility equipment is not available for use (ex: swim paddles, boards, basketball hoop, etc.). Patrons must bring their own equipment and should not share equipment with others.
  • Diving boards will not be available for use.
  • A reservation is required to use any studio or the old wrestling room. No drop-in use will be allowed.
  • Must bring their own mats/equipment for classes – Equipment must be cleaned before coming to class.
  • Must have feet covered, absolutely no bare feet.
Indoor Track
  • Patrons must check in at the open rec office when arriving for their workout.
  • Patrons are allowed a max of 45 minutes on the track
  • Community track passes will not be available until the community is allowed to use the facility.
Racquetball Courts
  • Activity allowed:
    • Wallyball/Volleyball – max of 2
    • Racquetball – only singles play
    • Badminton – only singles play
    • Nets will be set up and stay up for badminton and volleyball.
  • Patrons must bring their own equipment for use.
  • Patrons will be allowed 45 minutes for use and must have a reservation.
  • Masks must be worn at all times during activity.
Locker Rooms
  • Locker rooms will be closed.
Equipment/Laundry Services
  • Towel service will not be available.
Simpson Field
  • Simpson field will be available for use
    • EC is limiting outdoor capacity to 250
  • People should follow physical distancing guidelines as outlined by the CDC.
Bollinger Fields
  • Bollinger fields will be available for use
  • People should follow physical distancing guidelines as outlined by the CDC.
Tennis Courts
  • The tennis courts will be available for use.
  • Patrons may play singles tennis only.
  • People should follow physical distancing guidelines as outlined by the CDC.
Towers Volleyball Courts
  • The outdoor volleyball courts will be available for use.
  • People should follow physical distancing guidelines as outlined by the CDC.
Bridgeman Basketball Courts
  • The Bridgeman basketball courts will be available for use, but with limited play options.
  • No pickup games will be allowed.
  • People should follow physical distancing guidelines as outlined by the CDC.
Disc Golf Course
  • The disc golf course will be available for use. People should follow physical distancing guidelines as outlined by the CDC.
Vita Course
  • The vita course will be available for use. People should follow physical distancing guidelines as outlined by the CDC.
Group Fitness
  • Approximately 40 Classes will be offered in-person and virtually.
  • Indoor, outdoor and Zoom class offerings.
Massage Therapy
  • Symptom interviews will be conducted prior to massage by therapist.
  • Therapist and client wear masks.
  • No more than 20 clients per day (chair or table).
  • Keep accurate records of all clients for contact tracing.
Wellness Programs
  • Wellness programs will be canceled until community members are allowed on campus.
Intramural Sports

Intramural Sports offered for the Spring 2021 semester will include a variety of virtual, individual/dual, and team options. Safety protocols were developed in conjunction with university, Eau Claire County Health Department, WIAA, and NCAA guidelines. For a complete list of offerings, please refer to imleagues.com/uwec and check back continually as activity updates progress. Planned registration openings are as follows:

  • Block 3 – Thursday, February 4th at 10am
  • Block  – Thursday, April 1st at 10am

In addition to university-wide safety measures, Intramural Sports has adopted the following policies to enhance the safety of our participants:

  • Screening for COVID-19 symptoms and close contact prior to participation
  • Commitment from participants to the university testing protocol
  • Implementing team quarantines when necessary
  • Requiring the use of face masks for all activities
  • Limiting contests to rostered participants. Spectators are not permitted.
  • Practicing physical distancing when able
  • Implementing strict cleaning and sanitation procedures.
  • Limiting occupancy based upon facility standards. 
Club Sports

 

Travel and competition prospects remain unlikely at this time for affiliated club sport teams. Any travel/competition requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Requests for travel will first require the submission of a Shared Financial Service Travel Authorization and the process will unfold from there. The Club Sports program will prioritize assisting clubs safely operationalize team gatherings, practices, and intrasquad scrimmages. Conducting more conventional practices will be permitted contingent on the adherence to the continued utilization of masks, monitoring of symptoms and close contact, tracking of attendance, commitment to enhanced university testing procedures, and quarantining the club when necessary. Clubs should also still refer to their return to play protocol for conducting activities. Additionally, all club sports will be required to abide by the university, county, State of Wisconsin, and CDC guidelines and should consult their national governing body for guidance on how to proceed appropriately.

Clubs should still recognize their specified risk level as delineated below when planning practices and activities.  

Low Contact Risk

Equipment rentals
  • Will be available (canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, bikes, tents on rotation, backpacks, sleeping bags).
  • Equipment will be cleaned before and after each use.
EAC Trips
  • Trips will be day trips only, traveling to non-hotspot areas.
  • Only 4 passengers per/vehicle will be allowed with no food allowed.
  • Face coverings required in vehicles at all times.
  • All trips will follow the 6-foot physical distance as much as possible and face coverings will be required within the 6-foot physical distance outdoors.
Bouldering wall
  • Will be available for use and limited to 12 people in the area at a time allowing for the 6-foot physical distance.
  • Patrons will be required to sign up to use the facility for a 1.5-hour time slot. Consecutive reservations not allowed.
  • The facility will close for 1 hour approximately ½ way through the hours of operation to allow for cleaning of the mats, benches, and floor.
  • Patrons will be required to clean hands before and after use.
  • Face covering is required during climbing and in the building.
  • Maximum of 6 climbers at a time on the wall.
  • Community members not allowed.
Climbing wall
  • Will be available for use and limited to 12 people in the area at a time allowing for the 6-foot physical distance.
  • Patrons will be required to sign up to use the facility for a 1.5-hour time slot. Consecutive reservations not allowed.
  • Patrons will be required to clean hands before and after tying into the rope or belaying
  • Face covering is required during climbing, belaying and in the building. Maximum of 6 climbers at a time on the wall.
  • Community members not allowed.
  • Rental shoes will be sprayed inside and out with Lysol and socks will be required.
  • Slackline will be available, single-use only, then wiped down.
McPhee Open Recreation
  • Patrons must check-in at the open rec office if using any gym space, racquetball court, track or the MSPC cardio area.
  • Patrons must bring their own equipment for use and are encouraged to not share with others. The McPhee Staff will not be checking out any equipment.
Hilltop Open Recreation
  • 4 billiards tables will be available for use based on 6-foot physical distancing.
    • Pool balls and cues will be checked out at the CSR desk
  • 2 table tennis tables will be available for use.
    • Paddles and balls will be checked out at the CSR desk.
  • 2 bean bag toss sets will be available
    • Bags will be checked out at the CSR desk.
  • Air hockey table will be available for use.
    • Paddles and puck will be checked out at the CSR desk.
  • Foosball table will be available for use
  • All equipment will be cleaned and disinfected after each use.
  • Lookout Area will not be available of special events due to space issues. The area will be used for drop-in recreation for table tennis, bean bag toss, air hockey, and foosball.
  • Will be available by reservation only and set with tables for meetings based on the 6-foot physical distance guidelines.
  • Maximum of 15 participants.
  • Will be available, but with limited hours.
  • Every other gaming station will be used and those not in use will be blocked off.
  • Students must reserve a time to use the room. Students will be able to reserve the room for 1 hour at a time.
  • All equipment must be cleaned after each use.
  • Esports club must follow same guidelines outlined for all club sports.
