Ami holds a M.A. in TESOL from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF) and a B.A. in theatre from Northwestern College. She began teaching English in 2007 and has taught in the U.S. and a variety of international settings including UWRF, Shih Hsin University in Taiwan, and Baiko Gakuin University in Japan.

She has presented at numerous international conferences and recently served as English Language Fellow in Bangkok, Thailand with the Lower Mekong Initiative Professional Communication Skills for Leaders Project. The curriculum she helped to develop and edit for this project was published by the U.S. Department of State. She has collaborated on a variety of international projects with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Youth Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative, and several U.S. embassies in Southeast Asia.
