Teaching Interests
  • Teaching responsibilities range from entry to advanced levels of graphic design courses, including design compositional principles, design conceptual development, visual solution creativity, basic to advanced typography, symbology and identity system development, digital information environment, internet interface design, and digital multi-media motion design. Responsibilities also include developing graphic design curriculum, directing a variety of independent studies and directed studies, collaborating with professional companies to supervise various student internships, and implementing knowledge from research to teaching and curriculum.
Responsibilities
  • In addition to classroom teaching, Li-Ying has the responsibility to manage and maintain the departmental computer lab and classroom facilities for the Graphic Design area. These responsibilities encompass computers, scanners, printers, color-cartridges, paper supplies, mounting equipment, and maintaining communications with LTS to solve various equipment problems promptly to ensure the efficiency of computer lab operations in HFA labs 217, 219 and 276 on a daily basis.  
  • Li-Ying is also responsible for managing the Graphic Design area lab-fee account, ordering lab supplies for twelve GD courses per semester, and drafting annual Lab-Mod proposals based upon the suggestions of LTS directors.
  • Professor Li-Ying Bao has on average 30-40 advisees each semester. She keeps in communication with her advisees via office hours, E-mails, as well as individual appointment at any time when it is convenient to the student, sometimes including weekends and vacations.
  • Professor Bao also serves on various department and university committees.  
Research and Creative Activities
  • Research interests in graphic design, internet interface development and design, digital 2-D/3-D multimedia interactive motion graphics, illustration for contemporary literature, writing for children’s books of printed and digital media, exploration and application on integration of mathematical principles with design.
