The following email was shared with all UW-Eau Claire student employees on April 13.
I know that this semester is unlike anything we could have imagined. I hope that your first week of online instruction went well and that you are adjusting to a new way of learning.
I am writing to you as one of our student employees – one of several thousand students who also have had on-campus jobs. You’ve been a big part of our campus community. Unfortunately, with the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to close our campus, which has impacted student employment. Many of you will no longer have on-campus jobs this semester.
We know this represents a financial burden for many of you, who rely on your campus employment to cover your expenses. That is why we are implementing a one-time payment of $200 for ALL student employees. Below are the details for the program. Note that all student employees will receive the $200 payment, regardless of whether your job continues. Those of you who are in jobs that can continue, will remain on the payroll. I encourage you to contact Human Resources if you have any questions.
Our goal is to make sure that all our students are healthy, safe, and able to complete the semester. If you find that you are unable to meet your financial obligations, we can help. Contact Blugold Central – they have already assisted more than 100 students with emergency grants.
Blugolds, I want to thank you for all you have already contributed to our University through your on-campus jobs. We look forward to the time when we can be back working together again. In the meantime, please observe social distancing, study hard and be well.

Student Worker Income Continuation Program:
UW-Eau Claire is offering a one-time Student Worker Income Continuation payment to all active student hourly workers who logged hours worked in HRS between February 2, 2020, and March 28, 2020.
The payment will be $100 per week for two weeks — a total of $200.
The payment will be effective for the April A payroll, which begins Sunday, March 29, 2020, ends Saturday, April 11, 2020.
The payment will be paid on the Thursday, April 23, 2020, payroll.
Student workers who logged hours worked in HRS during the April A pay period will receive this payment in addition to their logged hours during the same pay period.
Human Resources will contact supervisors to verify which students are currently working and logging hours worked in order to keep those limited jobs active in HRS. Only those students who are able to continue working the remainder of the semester will remain active in HRS.
Departments will be responsible for initiating a student hire request in CampS to reactivate student jobs when needed.
Departments will need to review WISDM to determine details on Student Worker Income Continuation payments.
Please contact Human Resources at PERSNL01@uwec.edu if you have any questions.
