Nearly two years in the making, the inaugural Eaux Claires Music & Arts Festival was deemed an unqualified success by fans and reviewers from across the globe. The festival, held July 17-18 just southwest of Eau Claire, was the brainchild of 2004 UW-Eau Claire graduate Justin Vernon, frontman for the indie rock band Bon Iver. A total of 37 UW-Eau Claire students were part of the production staff for the multistage experience featuring live music by more than 40 bands as well as performance and visual art. The 22,000 people attending each day of the festival created a community of friendship and solidarity around music and the arts, which many hope will be repeated in the years to come.
