Running the Blugold Mile

For the first time, the Eau Claire Marathon followed a course that took runners through the UW-Eau Claire campus. Approximately 2,500 runners followed the “Blugold Mile” through campus as part of the full and half marathon races in early May.

Under the organizational leadership of UW-Eau Claire student Nathan Schaffer, more than 65 UW-Eau Claire student organizations — as well as the student mascot, Blu — staffed water stations and cheering stations and encouraged runners as they followed the route through campus. The Blugold Marching Band, Forward Brass Band, UW-Eau Claire Gospel Choir and other music groups performed along the route, and food and refreshments were available for sale on campus.
