Plans are proceeding for construction of two new buildings on campus.
Groundbreaking for a new $3.8 million Children's Center is anticipated in June. The new Children's Center will replace the current center located in Campus School and will also include infant and toddler child care services, which are currently housed at an Eau Claire church. The new center will be located next to the Human Sciences and Services building on Water Street, with construction scheduled to be completed in early 2012. The building is being funded by student segregated fees and user fees.
Architectural design of the new $44.5 million Education Building is going forward. The Education Building will replace the obsolete Campus School and Brewer Hall and will provide a number of new classrooms that will enable the university to eliminate use of classrooms that cannot support current and future learning environments. The new building will house the offices of the College of Education and Human Sciences, the departments of education studies, special education, English and foreign languages, and select student services functions.
The building, to be located between Zorn Arena and Schneider Hall, is the first new state-funded building to be constructed on campus in 30 years. Under the current project schedule, construction will begin in April 2012, with occupancy expected in spring 2014.
