Laura Suppes '07, a UW-Eau Claire environmental public health graduate, has returned to campus as an assistant professor of environmental public health.

"I am very excited to be back at UW-Eau Claire continuing the tradition of excellence and passing on my passion for the environmental public health field," Suppes said.

Suppes holds a master of public health degree in public health administration and policy from the University of Minnesota and a doctorate in environmental health sciences from the University of Arizona. She received the Outstanding Graduate Student Leader Award and the Student Life Award from the University of Arizona in 2013. The awards honor graduate students who demonstrate leadership, community and campus service, and academic excellence.

Suppes recently had two papers published that assessed swimmer exposures in pool environments and has been invited to speak about her research at several regional, national and international conferences. She currently is working on a research project funded by the National Swimming Pool Foundation looking for pharmaceuticals, endocrine disruptors and personal-care products in swimming pool water.

During her undergraduate career at UW-Eau Claire, Suppes was a two-time captain of the Blugold women's hockey team, a first-team All-National Collegiate Hockey Association player and a two-time NCHA All-Academic Team member.

"I attribute my successes after UW-Eau Claire to being a student-athlete," Suppes said. "The faculty and athletic staff's commitment to excellence sets a very high achievement standard that I carried into my work and graduate school experiences."
