Dr. Demetrius Smith
Dr. Demetrius Smith is a determined student affairs professional with experience in diversity and inclusion who joined UW-Eau Claire in 2019 as the inaugural program director for equity, diversity and inclusion.
Smith, originally from Decatur, Georgia, serves as second in command on all EDI efforts and assists in identifying opportunities for institutional improvement related to EDI.
“I enjoy being an advocate for our students, staff and faculty to guarantee that all of our underserved populations are always heard and that we are providing services, programs and initiatives for them at UW-Eau Claire," Smith said.
Most recently Smith served as a residence life coordinator and program director for the African-American Male Initiative at Middle Georgia State University. Smith developed and implemented programs for black men to assist in retention, progression and graduation. His additional higher education experience includes five years of enrollment management experience while serving as a graduation coordinator, and two years as a doctoral intern for the vice president of student affairs. In 2017 Smith received Middle Georgia State's Extra Mile Award for his work in starting Greek Life and bringing Divine Nine organizations to the university.
Smith holds a doctorate in student affairs leadership from the University of Georgia as well as a master’s degree in higher education administration and a bachelor’s degree in sports management from Georgia Southern University.
