Meet Pa Zong! Pa Zong Vang attends the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire (UWEC) with a major in Geospatial Analysis and Technology. She is on the path to graduate in the Spring of 2019 as a McNair scholar and Honor student. Pa Zong is currently working as a Lab Assistant in an introductory remote sensing course with Dr. Cyril Wilson. When Pa Zong is not focusing on her studies, she enjoys attending theatrical plays, art museums, and traveling. During Winterim 2019, she has the privilege of participating in a faculty-led immersion trip to Southwest China where students will learn about the ethnic minority populations residing in that region.
In the Geography and Anthropology department, Pa Zong has developed an independent research project through the mentorship of Dr. Cyril Wilson. The project utilizes geospatial technology and hydrologic modeling software to assess the influence of land use/land cover changes on surface water quality. The study area is located in the Lower Mekong River watershed in Cambodia. Her research project has been and will be disseminated at regional and national conferences such as the annual American Association of Geographers conference in Washington D.C. Through her growing interest of hydrologic modeling and geospatial technology, Pa Zong is planning to pursue a graduate program focusing on Watershed Science or Earth System Science.
