UW-Eau Claire construction update: May 1, 2017

The following is an overview of work completed since March and expected in the next 30 days on the UW-Eau Claire Garfield Avenue redevelopment project:


Work completed since March 20 project launch

  • Installed temporary walkways at base of Garfield Avenue hill to reroute pedestrian traffic
  • Installed tree protection fencing
  • Installed construction fence and temporary lighting
  • Installed erosion control
  • Installed directional signage
  • Removed surface treatments (pavement, topsoil) along Garfield Avenue from base of hill to Ecumenical Religious Center
  • Completed first stage of construction of first two steam pits at bottom of hill; poured and formed concrete box conduit for steam lines between pits
  • Installed new water main for service to Schofield Hall, Old Library, McIntyre Library, Thomas Hall and Putnam Hall
  • Relocated chilled water main in McIntyre Library loading dock area to accommodate new steam distribution system

Work to be completed in next 30 days

  • Install steam and condensate piping between first two steam pits
  • Excavate and complete first stage of construction for third and fourth steam pits; pour and form concrete box conduit for steam lines between pits
  • Install sanitary sewer from Putnam Hall to Schofield Hall
  • Take old steam system offline and remove

Upcoming key date

  • Closure of campus footbridge as of May 22 for reconstruction of steam pit at south end
