UW-Eau Claire construction update: April 1, 2018

The following is an overview of work completed since March 1, 2018, and expected in the next 30 days on UW-Eau Claire construction projects.

Work completed since March 1, 2018

Garfield Avenue redevelopment

  • Installed handrail extension along sidewalk at bottom of campus hill.
  • Constructed Chippewa Lounge area.

Karlgaard Towers south tower renovation

  • Excavated and poured concrete footings for new lobby on east side of Karlgaard Towers.
  • Began new window installations, starting on 10th floor.
  • Continued plumbing rough-ins.
  • Continued rough electrical work in student rooms.
  • Continued painting in student rooms.
  • Continued construction of penthouse addition (to hold new HVAC unit).
  • Continued installing rough electrical on first floor.
  • Completed installing first of two new elevators.
  • Installed steel studs on floors 6, 5 and 4 and 3.
  • Began tile installation in bathrooms on floors 10 and 9.
  • Completed drywall installation in common areas on floors 8, 7 and 6.

New residence hall

  • Drove piles for ground stabilization around structure.
  • Began digging foundation.
  • Removed tennis and basketball courts and part of Governors parking lot on construction site.
  • Installed new sanitary line to serve new residence hall, Governors Hall and Horan Hall.
  • Installed footings on west side of structure.

Work to be completed in next 30 days

Garfield Avenue redevelopment

As weather permits, begin grading, irrigation installation and landscaping of project site, starting with Putnam Park outdoor classroom and Chippewa Lounge areas.

Karlgaard Towers south tower renovation

  • Start installing steel structure for new lobby
  • Continue new window installations.
  • Continue plumbing rough-ins.
  • Continue rough electrical work in student rooms.
  • Continue painting in student rooms.
  • Continue construction of penthouse addition (to hold new HVAC unit).
  • Continue installing rough electrical on first floor.
  • Begin installing second of two new elevators.
  • Install steel studs on floors 2 and 1.
  • Continue tile installation in bathrooms on floors 9 and 8.
  • Continue drywall installation in common areas on floors 5 and 4.

New residence hall

  • Continue installing concrete basement walls.
  • Continue installing footings on east side of structure.
  • Backfill up to foundation walls.
