UW-Eau Claire celebrates Hmong Heritage Month

UW-Eau Claire is celebrating Hmong Heritage Month with activities planned throughout the month of April.

An opening Hmong Heritage Month celebration is slated for 7-9 p.m. April 4 in the Menominee Room of Davies Center.

A night of poetry and storytelling is planned for April 9. Seev Suab will run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in The Cabin of Davies Center. The event will include a Hmong folklore art competition.

There will be a roundtable discussion about Hmong culture and community from noon-1 p.m. April 10 in Room 2138 of Vicky Lord Larson Hall (formerly known as Old Library).

The film “Spirits Dawn” will screen at 7 p.m. April 16 in Room 1108 of Centennial Hall.

A second film, “1b Tsug 13 Hnub 2,” will screen at 7 p.m. April 23 in Room 1108 of Centennial Hall.

Hmong music will be showcased during a Riff Off/Karaoke Night event. Those festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. April 26 in The Lookout in Hilltop Center.

The monthlong celebration will end with annual “Hmonger Games” from 1-4 p.m. April 27 on the Central Campus Mall. Throughout the afternoon, six-person teams will compete in relay races that include various Hmong activities.
