Students, alumni invited to connect at Experience U

| Emily Wermund

If you’re a current student or Blugold alumnus, you're invited to attend Experience U from 5-8:30 p.m. April 27 in the Dakota Ballroom of the Davies Center at UW-Eau Claire.

At Experience U, UW-Eau Claire alumni can share their life-after-college work experiences with current Blugolds. Experience U is an opportunity for students to seek meaningful career advice and for alumni to help prepare the next Blugold generation for success.

This is the fourth occurrence of Experience U, which is sponsored by the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, Alumni Association and Career Services. It includes an evening of networking, dinner and conversation.

“Blugold alumni are in a unique position to give back by sharing advice and networking with other alumni and students,” says Tori Follett, director of annual giving with the UW-Eau Claire Foundation and Experience U coordinator. “For students, this is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to receive tips from alumni on how to maximize college experiences, transition to life after college, and launch a career.”

Students and alumni must register in advance to attend Experience U. To register, follow the appropriate link below:

Experience U has provided valuable experiences for current students looking to gain a competitive edge as they enter the professional world. Many, like junior Katie Dietlin, report that the connections they have made through the networking event will benefit them as they prepare for their future.

“I gained so many networking skills and relationships from Experience U. I was able to connect with some awesome alumni that have mentored me and given me interview opportunities for internships,” says Dietlin, a marketing major from Madison. “I was also able to take up last year’s keynote speaker on his offer for resume revisions. I emailed him shortly after the event and we worked together over email perfecting my resume for upcoming interviews.  I was so thankful for that connection because it encouraged me to grow professionally.”

Alumni participants say they have found Experience U to be as worthwhile for them as it has been for the students.

“I thought it was a great opportunity to give back to my alma mater, while also staying close to the students,” says Mike Palm, a 2013 UW-Eau Claire management graduate. “The event clearly demonstrated the value that it provides students. It's usually events like this where you meet people, shake hands and find new opportunities for your professional development."

The 2017 Experience U event will feature three Blugold alumni as keynote speakers:

  • Brian Carlson, a 1996 accounting graduate and president of Ambrion, a Minneapolis-based recruiting firm for executive-level accounting and finance professionals;
  • Brian Johnson, a 2004 theater arts graduate and partner at Katapult Network, an Edina, Minn.-based a recruiting firm for emerging young professionals; and
  • Jana Greenfield, a 2003 journalism and political science graduate and manager of operations for Ambrion and Katapult Network.
