“It is just incredible, especially in this competitive job market,” Florez said.
After graduating from UW-Eau Claire, Florez, an accomplished guitarist, percussionist and vocalist, received a scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in jazz and music performance at DePaul University in Chicago. While in graduate school, he recorded a CD with renowned trombonist Slide Hampton, performed with other famous jazz artists and even toured Italy, “all thanks to my training at UW-Eau Claire,” Florez said.
Florez is the lead guitarist and singer for the Don Cagen Orchestra, one of the top corporate and wedding bands in the U.S., which was chosen to perform at President Obama’s inaugural ball in 2009.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the skills, experience and professionalism I gained at UW-Eau Claire, especially from music professors Ron Keezer, Bob Baca and Nobu Yasuda,” Florez said. “They gave me the skills to succeed anywhere in the world.”
Florez, who received music scholarship funds through the UW-Eau Claire Foundation as a student, now contributes to a similar Foundation fund.
