Only the top science, math and engineering students in the country are considered for prestigious Goldwater scholarships, making it all the more impressive to find two UW-Eau Claire students listed among the 2015 winners.
Blugolds Elizabeth Stubbs and Sarah Kintner are among the 260 students awarded Goldwater scholarships for the 2015-16 academic year. Stubbs, a senior from Maple Plain, Minn., is majoring in materials science. Kintner, a senior from Suamico, is majoring in geology with a hydrogeology emphasis.
A third UW-Eau Claire student, Kelsey Steinke, received an honorable mention in the Goldwater scholarship program. She is a senior materials science major from Edgar.
UW-Eau Claire is one of just three public higher education institutions in Wisconsin and Minnesota to have students earn 2015 Goldwater scholarships. UW-Madison and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities are the only other public schools in the two states to have students win the highly competitive scholarships this year.
