Joint Finance Committee hears from Confluence supporters

Eau Claire civic and business leaders asked state legislators March 23 to include in the 2015-17 state budget funding for a community arts center that would be part of the Confluence Project in the city's downtown.

The local leaders testified during a Joint Finance Committee hearing in Rice Lake, where hundreds addressed the committee on a variety of state budget-related issues.

The proposed Confluence Project arts center is a collaboration involving the city of Eau Claire, Eau Claire County, UW-Eau Claire and the private sector.

Gov. Scott Walker has included $15 million in funding for the community arts center in his proposed 2015-17 state budget. Additional funding called for in support of the Confluence Project arts center includes $5 million pledged by the city of Eau Claire, $3.5 million pledged by Eau Claire County, $13.5 million in private donations and $3 million in new market tax credits.
