Grad reflects on hike along famous international pilgrimage path

Current students talk often about the many powerful ways that immersing themselves in other cultures enhances their lives.

Their up-close encounters with other countries and cultures introduce them to new people and perspectives, helping them see the world a little differently.

However, Blugolds’ curiosity about other people and places does not end at commencement.

Long after they graduate, our alumni still are embracing opportunities to immerse themselves in cultural experiences throughout the world.

The Rev. Tom Lindner, a 1982 journalism graduate, is one of those alums.

A former newspaper editor who left journalism 25+ years ago to study for the priesthood, he recently returned from a 200-mile hike across northern Spain. He followed a famous pilgrimage path, known as the Camino de Santiago.

“I don’t do competitive things, and I don’t do high-adventure things, and I’d never studied abroad in college,” he said. “This trip was going to be my immersion thing, my adventure.”

Read about Rev. Lindner’s journey in a recent story published in the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram.
