Governor Scott Walker was on our campus this afternoon to preview his 2017-19 UW System budget proposal.
I, along with UW-Stout Chancellor Bob Meyer, joined the governor as he shared a proposal that I am pleased to say is welcome news for UW-Eau Claire and the UW System.
The governor’s budget proposal provides $140 million in additional state funds for the UW System — an amount that significantly exceeds the UW System Board of Regents request and that is aimed at assuring that affordability and quality remain at the forefront of a UW education.
You can read news reporting about the governor’s proposal from wispolitics.com and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
While specifics of the budget proposal will become more clear tomorrow after it is formally unveiled, I am pleased Governor Walker today indicated his commitment to meaningfully reinvest in the UW System.
As we move forward in the budget process, I pledge to continue working closely with our business community, legislators, community leaders, UW System administration and the Board of Regents to achieve the best possible budget outcome for UW System and our campus.
