The fifth annual UW Meets EC will take place from 5-8:30 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 8. Shuttles will run from Towers Hall to Phoenix Park from 5-7 p.m. With the Phoenix Park market pavilion for a starting point, students will have a map of the walking route that centers on Barstow Street, takes them back across the river to Owen Park for music, and back to campus via 1st Avenue.
Reminder: this is a one-way walking tour. Buses will shuttle to Phoenix Park, but students will be asked to walk back to campus following the map.
The event has grown each year, just like the ever-growing downtown scene, with now more than 75 businesses participating throughout the route. Every location participates in a different way, some just by remaining open later hours, while many offer free tours, snacks, giveaways and coupons for future discounts at their establishments.
Downtown also is home to several city nonprofits that partner with UW-Eau Claire as service-learning sites, so take this chance to see what those organizations are all about as well.
Along the route students can expect to find free henna tattoo artists, a juggler, free caricature drawings from local artists, and several student organizations. The musical lineup this year includes the Innocent Men, Audacious, and Impromptu. Other participating student organizations include the Concert Dance Company and the UWEC Players with their living statues.
At Owen Park, students will find live screen-printing of the fun new UW Meets EC T-shirt by Ambient Inks, fun-loving and friendly therapy dogs, various downtown and Water Street businesses, and music by the punk-folk/Americana band Them Coulee Boys. The concert begins at 7 p.m.
Don't miss this fun and unique way to find out all that the business district closest to campus can offer students and the community.
