UW-Eau Claire faculty members Jan Larson, associate professor of communication and journalism, and James Oberly, professor of history, will present "Text and Context: The Spectator Journalism of Ann Devroy, 1967-69," from 4-5 p.m. April 22 in the Woodland Theater of Davies Center. The presentation is part of the Chancellor's Centennial History Series.
Larson and Oberly will present selected stories with Ann Devroy's byline for the years she worked on The Spectator student newspaper. Larson will read some of Devroy's writings (text) and Oberly will explain the background of the issues Devroy addressed as a student journalist (context).
Devroy was a 1970 UW-Eau Claire alumna who worked as a reporter and editor for The Spectator before embarking on an extraordinary career, which culminated in her position as a White House correspondent for 15 years before her death in 1997. The Chancellor's Centennial History Series presentation will precede the Ann Devroy Memorial Forum April 23.
