Fans of Wisconsin Public Television’s “Around the Farm Table” will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with the show’s host, Inga Witscher, during the Sept. 12 session of UW-Eau Claire – Barron County’s “Thursdays at the U” series.
A fourth-generation farmer who owns and operates a small organic dairy farm near Osseo, Witscher will present “Farming, Food and Fun!” from noon-1 p.m. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall (Room 234, Ritzinger Hall) on the Rice Lake campus.
During the Sept. 12 session, Witscher will make a smorgastarta — a Scandinavian-style sandwich cake — and discuss the importance of local food. She'll also talk about her personal successes and failures as a farmer.
“Around the Farm Table” shines a spotlight on Midwestern farmers and artisan food producers. When not setting up pastures, milking her 15 Jerseys, making cheese with her father or indulging her passions for gardening and cooking, Witscher collaborates with her team to develop narratives for the popular show.
After growing up on her family’s dairy farm on the West Coast, then making cheese on the East Coast, she is thrilled to now be in the middle of the country, home to truly happy cows and a vibrant agriculture, all of which she loves to celebrate “around the farm table.”
