Classified staff members support students through annual scholarship

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student William "Billy" Ericson is the recipient of the 2015-16 Classified Staff Student Scholarship.

Ericson, a junior from Fall Creek majoring in public history with a minor in library science, was nominated for the $600 scholarship by staff members Jacqueline Giles from Continuing Education and Joanne Erickson from the English department.

Each year permanent classified staff members have the opportunity to nominate an eligible student for this scholarship, with the recipient randomly selected from the pool of nominees.

Erickson says she was pleased to nominate Ericson for the scholarship award.

"Not only is Billy a dependable student employee in the English department," Erickson said. "He also is a nontraditional student working his way through college."

Ericson says he is grateful for the scholarship — and other support he has received at UW-Eau Claire.

"I am greatly appreciative for everything that the university has done to help me be successful," Ericson said. "I have wonderful co-workers at UWEC who nominated me for this award. Every semester it seems that something new and unexpected influences my life in a positive way, due to the great people that I have the pleasure of interacting with."
