Blugold softball star earns national honors

Blugold Amanda Fischer was among the 15 athletes named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American First Team.

A senior studying kinesiology at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Fischer is just the second Blugold softball player ever to earn a First Team All-American honors, and the only player to have been a three-time All-American.

Fischer, a native of Wausau, comes from a family of Blugold athletes — her mother, Sue, played basketball and her father, Todd, played football at UW-Eau Claire.

She says she followed in her parents' Blugold footsteps because UW-Eau Claire gave her a chance to be part of a strong athletic program while also giving her plenty of opportunities to pursue her many passions outside of athletics.
