Blugold Marching Band grows to 400 members, largest in Midwest

UW-Eau Claire’s Blugold March Band grew to 400 members this fall, making it the largest marching band in the Midwest — including at the Big Ten universities — and one of the largest marching bands in the country.

Even with 400 members, up from 350 in recent years, there still is a waiting list of students anxious to get in, says Dr. Randal Dickerson, band director, noting that every year since 2004 applications have exceeded limits.

Even more impressive than its record-setting size?

Nearly 80 percent of the BMB members are studying something other than music, says Dickerson.
