Alumna named UW-Eau Claire Foundation major gifts officer

With ties deeply rooted in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, third-generation Blugold alumna Julia Diggins was recently named a major gifts officer in the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.

“It’s a true honor to have the opportunity to take on this important role,” Diggins said. “As a UW-Eau Claire student, I had no idea how my path would lead me back here or to this position in particular. Not only am I an alumna, but both of my parents and my grandmother are alumni as well. It’s not a stretch to say I wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for UW-Eau Claire, since this is where my parents met. I owe a lot to this university and I’m excited to give back in a new way.”

Diggins is a 2003 UW-Eau Claire English graduate who also earned a master’s degree in college student development and administration from UW-La Crosse. In her role with the Foundation, she is primarily responsible for working with the university's alumni and friends in the Chippewa Valley.

“Julia's passion and dedication to UW-Eau Claire will inspire our alumni and donors,” said Marcia Van Beek, UW-Eau Claire Foundation director of major gifts. “Her wealth of knowledge of the university and established relationships with faculty and staff will serve her well as she provides on-campus opportunities for alumni and friends of UW-Eau Claire.”

Diggins previously served as the assistant director for new student orientation and student transitions at UW-Eau Claire. She worked with undeclared students to select classes, explore majors and careers, and find ways to enrich their undergraduate experience. In addition to meeting individually with students, she coordinated the student orientation, Blugold Family Connection and First-Year Experience programs.

Moving from working with current students to working with alumni seemed like a natural progression, Diggins said.

“Helping alumni become involved and invested in what happens on campus is important,” Diggins said. “Just as I have in my current position, I hope to create positive change at UW-Eau Claire. I’m hopeful I can be a bridge between our generous donors and the creative ideas I am surrounded with every day.”

The Foundation is responsible for raising funds to support the level of excellence in teaching, learning and service for which UW-Eau Claire is known and cannot maintain with federal and state support alone. Each year the UW-Eau Claire Foundation provides more than $5 million to the university to support programs and projects ranging from scholarships and faculty development to facility enhancements and equipment.
