Jazz Fest to be featured in a special set to air Dec. 19 on Wisconsin Public Television

Each year, jazz fans and performers flock to Eau Claire to experience one of the largest jazz festivals in the country, a collaborative event designed to educate, entertain, promote and perpetuate the worldwide cultural experience of jazz. The Eau Claire Jazz Fest is the largest student-run festival in the U.S., and anyone who hasn't attended will now be able to experience the sights and sounds captured on film for a special broadcast from Wisconsin Public Television, set to air at 9 p.m. Dec. 19.

"Jazz Fest in Eau Claire" is a documentary-style program that allows viewers to go inside the festival to see students performing in venues across the city, as well as learning from world-famous artists in hands-on clinics. All aspects of the festival are covered, including the popular 52nd Street nighttime event which hosts musicians and groups at venues throughout downtown Eau Claire.

Performances highlighted in the program include the headlining concert at Eau Claire Memorial High School, featuring high school groups that received the festival’s highest honors, and world-renowned jazz artists Stefon Harris and Jimmy Heath performing with UW-Eau Claire's Jazz Ensemble I.

"Jazz Fest in Eau Claire" is part of WPT’s multi-year Young Performers Initiative, a statewide effort to raise the visibility of the arts, celebrate the creative achievements of Wisconsin's young people and support the arts in education. Funding for the "Jazz Fest in Eau Claire" broadcast was provided by David and Susan Manor in honor of Blaine and Loretta Manor, Holiday Vacations and Friends of Wisconsin Public Television.

The full program and bonus musical content from the festival also will be available on the WPT website beginning Dec. 12.
