Actress values ties to UW-Eau Claire

| Judy Berthiaume

Actress Laila Robins may have made a name for herself on stage and screen in New York City but she’s never forgotten her Midwestern roots.

The UW-Eau Claire grad returned to the stage in the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis this fall for the first time in more than a decade, playing the role of Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine in “The Lion in Winter.”

Robins, who graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a music degree in 1981, has maintained close ties to her alma mater and stays in contact with some of her former professors and mentors.

Part of what has made being in the current Guthrie production so special, she says, is knowing that some of the Blugolds who inspired, taught and encouraged her years ago were in the audience.

An Eau Claire Leader-Telegram story highlights the highly accomplished actress’ ongoing relationship with UW-Eau Claire, and shares her advice for current students who may be contemplating careers in the arts.
