Math professor to present 'Pi is Transcendental' for April 15 'Ask a Scientist' event

Dr. aBa Mbirika, assistant professor of mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Claire, will present "Pi is Transcendental — not like Emerson or Thoreau, but in the math sense" as part of the university's "Ask A Scientist" educational series at 7 p.m. April 15 at the Acoustic Café in downtown Eau Claire.

Mbirika will discuss the number pi, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, and what makes it a transcendental number. He insists that while math terms and symbols may seem "scary" to some, the presentation will be accessible to a non-math audience.

The event is free of charge and open to all.
