UWEC management grad returns from fourth tour of duty in the Middle East

Ryan Severson ’03, a UW-Eau Claire management graduate, is a master sergeant in the Wisconsin Air National Guard who has returned from his fourth tour of duty overseas.

Severson, who as a civilian works as a regional sales manager for West Bend Mutual Insurance Co., has been deployed four times since graduating from UW-Eau Claire. He served in Afghanistan in 2003 and 2006, Qatar in 2009 and the United Arab Emirates in 2012-13.

His most recent homecoming was likely the sweetest. While serving in the UAE, Severson’s wife, Mollie (Van Dyk) Severson ’03, a UW-Eau Claire psychology graduate, gave birth to the couple’s third child, Noah. He joins sister Abigail and brother Tyler at home in Eau Claire.

Severson said his experiences at UW-Eau Claire prepared him well for his current endeavors.

“UW-Eau Claire provided me with an amazing experience,” he said. “It also prepared me to handle the many unique and tough situations I have encountered over the years.”
