Beginning this fall semester, McIntyre Library will be adjusting our standard academic semester hours, shaving off some low-use early morning and late-night hours. The library’s standard hours will be:
Monday 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Tuesday 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Wednesday 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Friday 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Sunday 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
The new hours align with most of our peer institutions in the UW System. With so many library resources online and accessible 24 hours a day, we have observed changes in the way students use library space. Our data shows that very few students who use the library after 11:00 pm are actually using library services, so staffing the library during those hours is not the best use of our limited budget, which has been flat for over a decade. We would rather increase what we pay our student employees, and staff new services such as the Makerspace.
The 24-hour study area inside the Garfield Avenue entrance and the after hours computer lab in Vicki Lord Larson Hall will still be available for students who want a place to study after the library closes.
If you have any questions or concerns about these new hours, please contact Library Director, Jill Markgraf (markgrjs@uwec.edu).
