Chinese New Year dumplings

Dr. Kaishan Kong and students make dumplings for the Chinese New Year.

The Chinese program in the Languages Department and Blugold Dining Service collaborated on the third annual dumpling event to celebrate Chinese New Year this afternoon. Students in Dr. Kaishan Kong’s Chinese 102 and 202 classes got a chance to watch Chef Thomas making dumplings and then practiced their skills. The event also included a quiz on Chinese new year customs, exchanging gifts and sending new year’s greetings in Chinese. This is one of the many examples of integrating cultures in language teaching, promoting community collaboration, and extending learning beyond the classroom.
