Are you looking for a way to get involved in history outside of the classroom? Join the History Enthusiasts club! The History Enthusiasts is open to all students. You do not have to be a history major to join, you just have to be interested in the subject.
The History Enthusiasts began three years ago as the only club with a history emphasis open to all students. Phi Alpha Theta is another club open to history students, but you must meet certain major and GPA requirements to join.
History Enthusiasts sponsors events throughout the year including game nights, movie nights, a historical scavenger hunt in Owen Park, and a “History Hopping” trip to the Twin Cities. In addition to these events, the club generally meets once a month.
Dr. Andrew Sturtevant, the History Enthusiasts advisor, says History Enthusiasts will be considering adding an element of formal education to the club as well, possibly inviting professors and community members to give presentations.
Lizzie Schmidt, the President of Phi Alpha Theta, encourages students to join because “history enthusiasts has not only the fun history-related activities but also the opportunity to connect with fellow historians and professors! These events are a great way to get to know fellow students and make new friends!”
If you are interested in joining History Enthusiasts, join them at their next meeting! Meeting times and dates can be found posted in the history department, or on the History Enthusiasts Facebook page.
