History M.A. Students Present Thesis Summaries

On May 12, the History Department hosted the Graduate Students Forum at which students who successfully defended their masters theses were invited to present summaries of their research.  Graduate Studies Director John Mann introduced the program and then the students took over discussing their original research and taking questions from the audience.  The Department will be awarding four M.A. degrees in history this spring:  

  • Lauren Anderson, “’A New Species’: Neighborhood and Community Shopping Centers in St. Louis Park, MN, 1941 – 1955."  Thesis advisor: John W. W. Mann
  • Benjamin Clark, "Making Bread Abroad: A Prosopographical Survey of American Jazz Musicians in Europe, 1945-1990."  Thesis advisor: Patricia Turner
  • Jeremy Swick, “A Living Memorial: A Case Study on the Creation of Memorial Stadiums at the University of Illinois, University of Minnesota, and Indiana University during the 1920s.”  Thesis advisor, Jim Oberly
  • Yuan Xu, "The Yinyang Academies in Yuan China (1260-1368): Formation and Development."    Thesis advisor: Reiko Shinno
