Students visit Marquette University School of Dentistry

By Ryan Keesler, Biology Major and Pre-Dental Student

On May 1 the UW-Eau Claire Pre-Dental students in the Pre-Professional Health Club made their annual trip down to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a tour of Marquette University School of Dentistry. When we arrived at the Dental School, we all looked around with amazement at the beautiful building. We were immediately welcomed and taken to a conference room where we enjoyed a nice meal, which was a very nice gesture after our long car ride.

After lunch, Brian Trecek, Director of Dental School Admissions, sat down with us and opened it up for questions. He not only answered each of our questions with great clarity but also followed up each response with an entertaining anecdote. We took full advantage of the time Brian had set aside for us –the Q&A lasted nearly two hours but the time just flew by!

After the questions, Brian gave us a personal tour of the building. Starting in one of the innovative lecture halls and ending in the patient centered clinic. We made our way from room to room learning how each room serves its specific purpose. Marquette's simulation lab piqued our interests and we were lucky enough to witness a dental student practicing a cavity removal procedure for an upcoming test.

Throughout the tour, each Marquette staff member and student we ran into was very welcoming and extremely happy to see us. Overall it was a terrific experience and we thank Marquette University School of Dentistry for their time and wonderful hospitality.
