Evan Moore, a senior Biology major and Spanish for Health Professions minor is heading to Bethesda, MD in the fall to attend the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) F. Edward Herbert School of Medicine of Walter Reed Medical Base. This is a health science university run by the United States federal government to prepare graduates for service to the US, at home and abroad, in the medical corps. Moore will attend Officer Development School this summer in Newport, RI, to be an active duty Naval officer during his four years in medical school.
This is an incredible opportunity offered to this outstanding Blugold. As a medical student at USUHS, Moore will pay no tuition or fees and will receive the full salary and benefits of a uniformed military officer. Moore is thankful for the support of the UW-Eau Claire Heath Careers Center (HCC) in his preparation for medical school. “Dr. Anderson in the HCC helped me gain confidence by being both supportive and critical as I filled out my applications.” Dr. Julie Anderson, Biology professor and Director of the HCC says “In my 16 years working with pre-health students at UW-Eau Claire, Evan is the first Blugold, that I’m aware of, who will attend the USUHS medical school. We are extremely proud of Evan and all that he has accomplished. He will be a terrific physician and serve the US medical corps very well.”
Moore has many noteworthy talents and has accomplished a lot at UW-Eau Claire. He excels in language courses, he spent a summer studying abroad in Costa Rica, he plays in the UW-Eau Claire marching band and regularly volunteers at local healthcare facilities. He has also been very involved in helping other Blugolds as a mentor through the Academic Skills Center. Faith Pawelski and Audrey Robinson of the Academic Skills Center worked with Moore for several years. “Evan has worked with our Supplemental Instruction (SI) program since 2014 as an outstanding SI leader and a mentor for Biology courses. Evan is truly an impressive Blugold.”
