Find out all the exciting news coming from the geology department in the Dig It 2019 newsletter, not the least of which being a changing of the charge in chairperson from Dr. Kent Syverson to the new chair Dr. Phil Ihinger. After an innovative nine years as chair, Syverson will be focusing efforts in the classroom and on a new Foundation role consulting with STEM chairs to find untapped funding resources.
Here are a few lines from Dr. Ihinger in his new role writing the letter from the chair:
"Through his stewardship of the Responsible Mining Initiative (RMI), Dr. Syverson has helped us add valuable educational opportunities in the workplace to our rigorous, field-based geology and collaborative research programs. . ."

"Meanwhile, our faculty remain fully committed and engaged in collaborative research with our undergraduate students. Every member of our faculty is currently collaborating with our geology majors on exciting research from around the globe."
