A recent grad's view from the top
My experiences as a Geology Major at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UWEC) were some of the best of my life. The comprehensive classroom learning and challenging field trips brought my education to a level higher than expected. Thanks to a solid degree, and the support of my academic advisor, I earned an amazing internship at Mount Rainier National Park after graduation. While working at the park, I was responsible for analyzing changes in some of the rivers and glaciers- not your typical day at the office!
I also participated in the Geology Department’s collaborative research program where I used advanced computer software to evaluate glacial geology in North-Central Wisconsin. There is no doubt these skills prepared me for my current position as Industrial Minerals Geologist at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. In this role, I help manage construction aggregate resources that earn revenue for Minnesota Public Schools.
It is clear that the successes of the UWEC-Geology program start with the passionate professors and staff. With the help of alumni, they have built an excellent reputation that is recognized throughout the industry. I feel a great sense of pride declaring that I am a product of UWEC-Geology.
