UW-Eau Claire construction update: Oct. 1, 2017

The following is an overview of work completed since Sept. 1 and expected in the next 30 days on the UW-Eau Claire Garfield Avenue redevelopment and Karlgaard Towers renovation projects.

Work completed since Sept. 1

Garfield Avenue redevelopment

  • Poured concrete walkways from west to east on both sides of project up to McIntyre Library.
  • Poured concrete for McIntyre Library loading dock.
  • Backfilled with topsoil along walkways near Thomas and Putnam halls and outdoor classroom.
  • Installed concrete base for sidewalk pavers in front of Schofield Hall and Old Library.
  • Installed concrete footings for Chippewa Lounge area along riverfront.
  • Poured fire pit footings in outdoor classroom area.
  • Began concrete work on amphitheater.
  • Planted temporary grass near Schofield, Putnam and Thomas halls for erosion control.

Karlgaard Towers south tower renovation

  • Installed construction fencing.
  • Completed exterior demolition work: Removed concrete sidewalks and patio, removed shrubs around base of building.
  • Began basement demolition.
  • Asbestos abatement: Completed 10th floor, began on ninth floor.

Work to be completed in next 30 days

Garfield Avenue redevelopment

  • Continue pouring concrete walkways from west to east on both sides of project.
  • Restore hot water service to McIntyre Library and campus facilities on north side of Chippewa River (slated for Oct. 2).
  • Restore steam service to Schneider Hall and campus buildings north of footbridge.
  • Complete new gas utility line installation from McIntyre Library to Park Avenue.
  • Put down granite base course in outdoor classroom area near Putnam Park.
  • Begin installing brick sidewalk pavers in front of Schofield Hall and Old Library.
  • Continue mass grading of project area from west to east.
  • Install crushed granite path through outdoor classroom area leading to and from Putnam Park entrance.
  • Repave Roosevelt Avenue near Schneider and Phillips halls.
  • Finish concrete work on amphitheater.
  • Begin installing precast concrete panels in Chippewa Lounge area along riverfront.

Karlgaard Towers south tower renovation

  • Asbestos abatement: Complete on ninth and eighth floors, begin on seventh floor.
  • Begin bathrooms demolition on 10th and ninth floors.
  • Continue demolition of basement and begin demolition of lobby.
