The UW-Eau Claire footbridge over the Chippewa River will be closed Monday, July 29, through Sunday, Aug. 4, due to a concrete replacement project that includes the walkway at the bridge's south end.
The concrete replacement along the walkway at the south end of the bridge is expected to be completed by Aug. 5. It is part of a larger summer project that will replace sections of concrete walkways along Garfield Avenue from the campus clock tower on the east to the bottom of the campus hill leading to upper campus.
The concrete sections are under warranty for replacement due to cracking following their initial installation in 2018. They will be replaced with brick pavers laid over a new concrete bed. All work is being done within the original Garfield Avenue redevelopment project budget.
The entire concrete replacement project is expected to be completed before the start of fall semester classes.
