To promote the health of the native prairie along Little Niagara Creek on the UW-Eau Claire campus, a controlled burn of vegetation on the creek’s banks will be conducted starting at 9 a.m. Sunday, April 28.
The controlled burn, to be conducted by Prairie Restorations Inc. with assistance from students in a UW-Eau Claire conservation biology class, will help kill off invasive species and allow prairie species to thrive as they start growing this spring. The Eau Claire Fire Department will conduct a safety talk prior to the start of the burn. A blackened area will be noticeable along the creek following the controlled burn until native plant growth occurs.
For additional information about the controlled burn, contact Aaron Turek, grounds supervisor in UW-Eau Claire’s Facilities Department, at email@example.com.
