As a features editor at the Pioneer Press in St. Paul, Minnesota, Amy Nelson has fielded all sorts of calls from people pitching story ideas to her.

But no call has surprised the 1992 UW-Eau Claire journalism and Spanish grad more than one three years ago from Prince’s people asking her to hop a plane to Colorado that evening for an interview with the music icon who called the Twin Cities home.

The Blugold shared her adventure and her impressions of Prince — an international superstar who rarely gave interviews to the media — in a piece that ran in the Pioneer Press nearly three years ago.

With Prince’s death last week, Amy now is sharing her column with her Blugold family.
