The 43rd Advancing Men in Nursing / Leap Conference was held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, October 4-6, 2018. Student nurse and President of the UW-Eau Claire American Association of Men in Nursing chapter, Omid Razmpour attended with chapter advisers Assistant Professor, Mohammad Alasagheirin, Ph.D., RN and Associate Director of Clinical Learning Center, Clinical Assistant Professor, Gunnar Larson, DNP, RN.
Omid, who is a junior, was invited to display a poster summarizing recent research he conducted with Dr. Alasagheirin on the health of the Somali populations in Barron County, Wisconsin. Omid related the it was an "amazing feeling to be able to express what I had learned over the past summer participating data collection with nursing researchers from across the country. During the conference, I was able to connect and network with individuals who were willing to share with me advice that helped them when they were in similar situations. I encourage my peers to try and attend a nursing organization's conference in the future as well." Dr. Larson displayed a research poster focused on simulation methodologies at the conference, as well.
With the extreme shortage of nurses all over the world, more men are encouraged to join the profession. For more information visit Advancing Men in Nursing, AAMN.
